Katherine [Katu] Medina-Pineda, MHC-LP
They/Them/Elle
Katherine- or Katu- is a proud fat, Queer, Genderfluid, first-generation Honduran-American who migrated to New York from Tegucigalpa as a teen. Informed by social justice and decolonizing frameworks, they view therapy as a human right and a tool toward our collective liberation. Katu aims to co-create with clients a therapeutic space that centers connectedness and safety, in which a client can explore the relationship between their self, their identities, and the systemic scripts that are imposed on them. By implementing Internal Family Systems (IFS) with somatic and creative or artistic techniques, Katu offers a therapeutic space that is de-pathologizing and person-centered. You are not your diagnosis or your symptoms- you are a whole human being!
Katu received their MA in Mental Health Counseling from CUNY Brooklyn College and received their BA in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Philosophy, Literature, and Technical Theater from Sarah Lawrence College. They completed their graduate internship at Interborough Developmental and Counseling Center; where they had the opportunity to work with children, adolescents, adults, and families providing bilingual services to clients with a diversity of identities, presenting concerns, and resource accessibility. Katu enjoys working with clients who seek support with concerns regarding gender or sexuality; generational trauma; vocational burnout; and disordered eating.
