LaMar Holmes, MHC-LP
He/Him/His
LaMar is a first generation college graduate of Black American ancestry who believes therapy is essential to coping in a society that seems shrouded by maliciousness and pain. In addition, as a member of an underrepresented community, it can be even more challenging to find peace and clarity in life. Growing up in the rural south and seeing how individuals and communities struggle to assuage feelings of anger, resentment, fear, and hopelessness, he has learned to avoid passing judgment and the importance of approaching each emotion dutifully and with understanding. LaMar aims to adhere to a treatment philosophy that is based on fostering a safe environment in which to meet clients where they are using relational, interpersonal, existential, and humanistic approaches. His clinical interests are mood and anxiety disorders, navigating and healing from trauma, providing access to culturally informed, evidence-based interventions, and identity development issues in individuals of color, emerging adults, parents, and older adults.
LaMar graduated from Teachers College at Columbia University with dual Master’s degrees in Education and Psychological Counseling, and has received his BS in Human Science from Georgetown University. He completed his graduate internship as a staff member, and mental health counseling intern, at Macaulay Honors College’s Mental Health and Wellness Center at CUNY where he counseled young adult college students of various gender, race, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
